From the river or from the lake? vitiligo

The appearance of white areas on the skin may indicate a malfunction of the immune system or a fungal disease.

No matter how much you tan, these spots will always remain colorless, almost white.

And it is good if they are located on areas of the skin that are usually covered by clothes. Worse if on the face, neck, hands. And what is the reason for the appearance of such spots? Is it possible to deal with them?

– This is how vitiligo is usually manifested – a chronic skin disease. Discolored areas on the skin of patients are areas with a violation of natural pigmentation, explained dermatologist Zhanna Prykhodko. They are mainly located on the face, neck, and hands.
Vitiligo does not cause physical discomfort. The disease is not contagious. As researched, it develops as a result of the loss or decrease in the function of melanocytes – pigment cells. The cause of the disease is not known for sure, but it is associated with autoimmune failures in the body, disruption of endocrine organs. Often, the disease starts after intoxication or trauma.

– Are all light spots on the skin a sign of vitiligo?

-No. Violations of skin pigmentation occur for various reasons, including age-related changes, under the influence of chemical compounds, as a result of other skin diseases. Therefore, before starting treatment, it is worth making sure that the diagnosis is correct.

– The appearance of discolored areas on the skin also manifests as lichen planus. The area of skin affected by the fungus has the color of coffee with milk, although sometimes the spots can be pale gray or bright brown.

– Where can you catch him?

– This type of fungus can be transmitted through river and lake water. If a sick person is bathing next to you, there is a high probability that the fungus will be transmitted to you. The causative agent of the disease is a yeast-like fungus that parasitizes in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. Most often, it affects people prone to excessive sweating, with reduced immunity.
Since a person does not experience any subjective feelings in connection with this disease (in particular, there is no itching), he often does not consider himself sick, let alone contagious. At the same time, the sooner the treatment is started (it consists of both applying antifungal drugs to the skin and taking drugs internally), the more chances there are to overcome this disease.
