Daily washing can damage the skin, scientists say

A person should not wash with gel or soap more often than 2-3 times a week. This is recommended by Israeli scientists. According to them, daily washing leads to the destruction of the acid-base balance of the skin, which is a protection against fungi and bacteria.
Zhanna Prykhodko, a dermatocosmetologist at the Zhanvi Cosmetology Center, commented on the findings.
– Such a statement sounds strange, especially in the heat. Can daily washing hurt?
– Of course, if you use shower products during washing (we are talking about gels, soaps). You see, our skin has a so-called water-lipid mantle (it regulates water evaporation, prevents the penetration of microorganisms, has an anti-fungal effect).
This is a kind of protective shield, thanks to which the condition of the skin is kept normal. With frequent washing, the water-lipid mantle is broken, the protective barrier becomes weaker, so streptococci and staphylococci can strike. That’s why rashes appear on the skin first, and then dermatitis.

In addition, the skin has its own acid-base balance. If you often use shower products, this balance is disturbed. Under such conditions, the “green light” is given to saprophytes – a flora that is normal for every person, but under certain circumstances it becomes pathogenic. Violation of acid-base balance creates favorable conditions not only for the penetration of microorganisms deep into the skin, but also ultraviolet light. In other words, it is about starting the mechanisms of skin aging.
– What to do?
– If we talk about every day, you should just rinse your body with cool water. However, the use of gels or soaps is not recommended so that the skin’s immune system is not adversely affected. And soaps and gels should be used only a few times a week.
However, there is no single formula in this matter. For example, athletes should take a shower after exercise to wash away toxins and sweat. There are many people with hyperhidrosis (increased sweating), they also can not miss water treatments. As for the general, first of all, it is impossible to cancel local hygiene. Second, if you have a desire or need, you should not deny yourself a shower, but you do not have to do it with shower products.
Instead, when taking a bath or shower, you should use emollients – substances that help normalize the condition of the skin (sold in pharmacies). You can also add a decoction of chamomile, glycerin or even milk to the water. It will also help rejuvenate the skin and improve its condition.
